Zero gravity massage chairs

Recline past roughly 128° and your knees rise above your heart. Your spine stops carrying you. NASA mapped this posture on astronauts at launch, and every chair we build reaches it.

The position

Three levels of zero gravity, not one

Most chairs treat zero gravity as a single button: you are either in it or you are not. Ours do not. Every chair in the range gives you three separate recline stages, each one opening the angle between your torso and thighs a little further and lifting your knees a little higher relative to your heart. The reason that matters is that the right position is not the same on every day, or for every body.
Level 1

The everyday recline

Your legs come up, the backrest tilts, and the pressure comes off your lower back without the room tipping away from you. This is the level most people use most of the time. It is comfortable enough to read or watch something in, which the deeper two are not, and it is the right place to start if you have never sat in a zero gravity chair before.
Level 2

The true NASA posture

The backrest opens further and your knees rise to heart level. This is the position the whole category is named after — the neutral body posture NASA recorded on astronauts at launch, where the spine carries almost nothing and the chair carries everything. It is the level where the massage itself changes, because your back is pressed evenly into the track rather than resting against it.
Level 3

The deepest position

Knees go clearly above the heart and the recline reaches its limit. Venous return from the legs gets the most help here, which is why it suits swollen legs and feet after a long day. It is also the most disorienting to enter and leave, so it is worth arriving at gradually rather than starting here.

The practical advice is to work through them rather than jump to the deepest. Start at level one for a week and see how your back responds. Move to level two when the first stops feeling like enough — that is the position most owners settle on. Keep level three for the evenings when your legs are genuinely tired. One button cycles between them, so you can change your mind mid-session without getting out of the chair.
What it does

Four things change when you recline

The chair is doing two jobs at once. The rollers work your muscles. The position changes what your body is doing while they work.
01

Your spine stops working

Sitting upright, your lumbar discs carry the compressive load of everything above them. Reclined past 128 degrees, that load transfers into the chair and spreads across the whole back surface. This is why the position tends to help lower-back complaints more than the massage alone does.
02

Blood returns more easily

With your legs raised to heart level, venous return from the lower body no longer works against gravity. Circulation through the legs improves, and the swelling that builds up over a long day on your feet has somewhere to go.
03

Your chest opens

Reclining relieves the compression that slumped sitting puts on the diaphragm. Breathing gets deeper without effort, which is a large part of why people describe the position as calming before the rollers have even started.
04

You fall asleep in it

The combination of reduced spinal load, easier circulation and deeper breathing lowers physical arousal. Most people who use a chair in the evening report drifting off mid-programme, which is not a flaw — it is the posture doing its job.

Stacked

The position makes everything else work harder

Zero gravity on its own is a comfortable way to sit. Its real value is what it does to the systems layered on top of it — every one of them performs differently on a body that is not holding itself up.

Heat

Warmth reaches muscle more effectively when the tissue is not under compressive load. Reclined, the lumbar heaters work on a back that is already unloaded.

4D rollers

A 4D roller varies its rhythm through the session. In the zero gravity position your back is pressed evenly into the track, so the roller reaches the full length of the spine rather than only where you happen to be leaning.

Air compression

Leg and foot airbags squeeze against a limb that is already elevated, so each cycle assists venous return rather than fighting it.
Price

What a zero gravity chair costs

Chairs advertising zero gravity start near $1,500 and run past $20,000. At the low end the recline is usually partial — comfortable, but the knees never clear the heart. Ours all reach the true position, which is most of what separates the two ends of that range.

$9,950

Niyak

Entry to the range. Full zero gravity, health sensors, AI voice control and six colours.

$10,999 – $14,799

Rayan, Ayla, Auren

Deeper recline programmes, wider heat coverage and up to thirteen colour options on the Auren.

$16,799

Weltron

Zero gravity paired with the 5D ROVO system and synchronised wing armrests found nowhere else in the US.

Every chair is available through Affirm for monthly payments across 24 to 36 months, subject to eligibility. On the Niyak that starts near $345 a month. All five carry a 3-year warranty and free return shipping inside 90 days.

The other side

The disadvantages, honestly

Zero gravity is genuinely good, and it is also oversold. Four things worth knowing before you spend five figures on a chair.

It is not for everyone

If you have vertigo, inner-ear trouble, or get lightheaded when your head goes below your heart, the transition in and out of the position can be unpleasant. Acid reflux is the other common one — some people find reclining after a meal makes it worse, not better.

Getting out takes a moment

A full zero gravity recline puts you well back and low. Every chair returns to upright on one button, but if you have limited mobility or hip trouble, sit in one before you buy. This is a real consideration, not a small one.

It needs the space

Reclining fully means the backrest travels. Our chairs use wall-hugging designs that need far less clearance than older models, but you still need to plan the footprint rather than assume the chair occupies only what it covers upright.

Not every chair reaches true zero gravity

A lot of chairs advertised as zero gravity recline to a comfortable angle without ever putting your knees above your heart. If the knees do not clear the heart, you are in a nice recliner, not the NASA posture. Check the spec, not the label.
Before you decide

Common questions

1. Is a zero gravity massage chair worth it?
If you use it regularly, yes — but for the posture as much as the massage. The recline is what takes compressive load off your lumbar spine and lets blood return from your legs without working against gravity, and those two effects are what most owners actually notice after a few weeks. If you’d only use the chair occasionally, a simpler recliner will cost far less and deliver most of the comfort.
Four worth knowing. People with vertigo or inner-ear conditions can find the transition unpleasant. Acid reflux can worsen when reclining after a meal. Getting in and out takes a moment if you have hip or mobility limitations. And many chairs marketed as zero gravity never actually raise the knees above the heart, which means you’re buying a recliner with a marketing label.
Physical therapists and chiropractors often suggest elevated-leg reclined positions for lower-back pressure and circulation, and the zero gravity posture is a convenient way to reach one. That isn’t the same as a medical endorsement of any particular chair. If you’re managing a diagnosed spinal condition, are pregnant, or have a cardiovascular or blood-pressure condition, ask your own clinician before making it a daily habit.
Lower-back pressure, leg swelling and circulation, breathing depth, and winding down in the evening. It isn’t a treatment for any of those things — it changes the mechanical situation your body is in, and for a lot of people that’s enough to feel meaningfully different after twenty minutes.
Fifteen to thirty minutes is the usual range, which matches most chair programmes. Longer isn’t harmful for most people, but the returns flatten, and it’s easy to fall asleep in a position you didn’t plan to sleep in all night.
Yes. All five — Niyak, Rayan, Ayla, Auren and Weltron — reach the full position with the knees above heart level, not a partial recline.
