Deep tissue massage is a massage therapy that works to adjust and align deep layers of muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. Deep tissue massage therapy is beneficial for chronic conditions of tension, and contracted areas of overuse and over-extension such as stiff neck, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.
Many of the same techniques used in other types of massage therapy are used in deep tissue massage, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper, more concentrated on areas of tension and pain. The primary concern of deep tissue massage therapy is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and other connective tissues, surrounding muscles, bones and joints.
What causes most people to have chronic pain in their muscles, tendons, ligaments or other connective tissue are adhesions. Adhesions are a type of fibrous, rigid scar tissue that can block circulation, cause pain, limited movement and inflammation.
Deep tissue massage works to sooth and breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.
Life is too short to live with chronic pain and nagging stress.
